AGRICULTURE AND
FOOD SECURITY
At CLEAN, we view agriculture and food security through the lens of energy and just transition. From irrigation and farming to food processing and storage, energy is central to our food systems. We work to explore how clean, affordable, and decentralized energy can reduce farmers’ costs, strengthen climate resilience, and protect rural livelihoods. Through our engagement with KHANI, a food security network in Bangladesh, and the COPE Initiative, we connect food security with climate justice, energy transition, and sustainable livelihoods. Under COPE, we are also exploring agrivoltaics, integrating solar energy with agricultural production as a pathway towards resilient farming and clean energy. CLEAN works towards a future where clean energy powers resilient agriculture, farmers benefit from the transition, food security is protected, and no community is left behind. A just energy transition must also protect food, land, livelihoods, and the people who produce them.

Demanding Agrovoltaics for Food Sovereignty & Energy Security In Bangladesh
Around 150 people from climate-vulnerable communities came together to call for agrivoltaics as a pathway to food sovereignty and energy security in Bangladesh. The mobilisation also reached a wider audience, with 30 newspapers covering the initiative and an estimated 10,000 people informed about the campaign.
The mobilisation was jointly organised by three partner organisations of CLEAN and the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology ans Development (BWGED), Haor Area Upliftment Society (HAUS), Society of Development and Education for Small Households (SoDESH), and Participatory Research & Action Network (PRAAN) bringing community voices to the forefront of Bangladesh’s energy and food transition.
National Drought Convention 2023
Bangladesh
CLEAN was a co-organizer of the National Drought Convention 2023, bringing together stakeholders to address the growing impacts of drought on livelihoods, water, agriculture, and food security. The convention focused on community resilience, social equity, gender-responsive action, and disaster preparedness, while promoting resilient and sustainable water, agriculture, and food systems.
