Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said the interim government is burdened by unequal agreements and heavy debts inherited in the power and energy sector.

Despite various initiatives to strengthen the energy sector, a lack of transparency and persistent challenges have hindered progress, the adviser said at the opening of the second Bangladesh Energy Prosperity 2050 conference, organized by the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development (BWGED) at the BIAM Foundation in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan also addressed the event, emphasizing the government’s commitment to renewable energy expansion.

“We aim to utilize unused government land, including railway properties, for renewable energy projects. While private companies are performing well in solar energy, ensuring the quality of inverters, cables, and other components is crucial,” he said.

The three-day conference, running until Friday, is bringing together organizations, environmental activists, energy experts, lawyers, and professionals working on renewable energy development in Bangladesh.
