BANGLADESH ENERGY CONFERENCE (BEC)
The Bangladesh Energy Conference, organized by the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development (BWGED) in collaboration with national and international partners, represents a continuation of a national platform for dialogue on sustainable energy transition, energy governance, and climate-resilient development in Bangladesh. The conference builds on a series of annual events initiated in 2023 that have brought together policymakers, researchers, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and development partners to shape Bangladesh’s future energy pathway.

The initiative began in 2023 as the Bangladesh Energy Prosperity 2050 (BEP 2050) Conference, the first national civil-society-led platform focused on long-term energy transition strategies and renewable energy development. The inaugural conference, held from 27–29 April 2023 in Dhaka, brought together more than 283 participants from government, academia, civil society, foreign allies and industry to discuss policy coherence, renewable energy expansion, and pathways toward sustainable energy systems.

Following the success of the initial event, the platform evolved into the Bangladesh Energy Conference, expanding its scope and participation. The second conference in 2024 attracted around 400+ participants and emphasized policy reform, institutional transparency, and accountability in the energy sector. The third conference in 2025 further strengthened the national dialogue on energy transition, highlighting the urgent need to reduce fossil-fuel dependence and accelerate renewable energy deployment.

Since 2023, the Bangladesh Energy Conference platform has supported a wide range of activities, including:
-
National and regional policy dialogues on energy transition
-
Stakeholder consultations on renewable energy development
-
Research dissemination and policy recommendations
-
Advocacy for transparency and accountability in the energy sector
-
Engagement of youth, civil society, journalists, and affected communities in energy decision-making
The Bangladesh Energy Conference 2026 aims to consolidate the achievements of previous years while advancing policy solutions for a just and sustainable energy transition. The conference seeks to promote renewable energy expansion, improved governance and transparency, and inclusive participation to ensure a secure, affordable, and environmentally sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.
